Week 7 - Photoshop Manipulation

These are two pictures that I just played around with in Photoshop and I used several tools, crop, magic wand, quick select, etc. I found that playing with the magic wand was really fun because there are so many possibilities with each selection. I liked exploring the hue/saturation and seeing the results from the alterations. With the top image I selected certain petals of the flower using quick select and then I manipulated the hue and saturation and I also resized those selections. Then I placed certain selections under the original to look like there are more petals than there are. I also experimented with more unrealistic coloring in the bottom photo. It was fun to use the magic want to get certain pixels of color, and then to alter that color significantly. This was a fun assignment just to work with some photos and begin to delve into the endless world of Photoshop.

  1. Rachel,

You did a great job .... The flower is so perfect. The two shades are lovely.
The bark of the tree is almost cartoon like.

  2. Nice job with the alterations. I am finding using the selection tools hard. Any hints?

  3. Quick Select/Magic Wand is definitely one of my ABSOLUTE favorite tools! It's incredible what you can get when you have such specification of what you are selecting!

On a more technical front, you did an amazing job blending the original flower with the added petals - until you said you had done that I didn't think otherwise of them!

I also really like the colors of the bark. What you chose to highlight in yellow and what you left tinted green is wonderful, very intentional, artistic, and gorgeous.

    GREAT job!!!

  5. I love the flower! The colors go great...and are pleasing to the eye! The linesseem bold, and the only area of haze or fuzz is in the background...which occurs on most Macro shots anyway....Thank you for sharing! Awesome job!
